The 2.0 EXP is exactly like our Personal Item 2.0, but a bit bigger, and it can also expand too. Our signature removable wheels allow the Personal Item 2.0 EXP to fit inside airline personal item sizers measuring 18"H x 14" W x 8"D inches (Wheels OFF), turning your bag from a paid carry-on into a FREE personal item. Save up to $200 on every trip!
NOTE: Expanding the 2.0 EXP converts the suitcase into a carry-on, and therefore will NOT fit the airlines' personal item size requirements when expanded.
ALSO: Overstuffing the suitcase can make it stretch, causing it to change measurements and not fit inside the personal item sizers. Please be careful not to overstuff your luggage to avoid bag fees!

The Standard: A dedicated personal item that is always 18"x14"x8".
The EXP: A shapeshifter. Keep it zipped close to fly free as a personal item, or unzip the expansion gusset to transform it into a spacious carry-on when you need extra room for souvenirs.
Yes—when compressed. Just keep the expansion zipper closed and pop the wheels off. In this mode, it shrinks to exactly 18"x14"x8", meeting the strict free bag requirements for Spirit and Frontier. (Note: If you expand it, it becomes a standard carry-on size).
It’s simple:
Personal Item Mode: Zip the compression zipper closed to squash your clothes down and fit the sizer.
Carry-On Mode: Unzip the gusset to release extra packing space (great for the trip home!).
It fits sizers 18" x 14" x 8" and larger.
Compressed: It meets the personal item requirements for Frontier, Spirit, and most major US carriers.
Expanded: It fits the standard overhead bin size for virtually all major airlines.
Note: Always check your specific airline, but if their limit is 18x14x8 or bigger, you are clear for takeoff.
Absolutely. When expanded, the 2.0 EXP holds almost as much as a traditional carry-on. The difference is, your old carry-on can't shrink to save you money on budget flights—but this one can.

Customer Reviews
Overall rating: 4.2 / 5 from 29 reviews.
I love the color and I love how it has an expandable zipper to convert it into a full carry on size. It wouldn't let me add a video, but it does fit perfectly into frontier sizer. It was snug, but I was still able to drop it in. I did not overstuff mine. I was able to zip it without pushing the luggage down. I packed a weeks worth of clothes for Hawaii and it weighed 15lbs. My toiletries and shoes were in another bag. I have 2 of the 4.0 non expandable and the wheels are easier to remove. My 3 year old could easily remove it and put it back on. The wheels on these are harder to remove and less sturdy.
Recently used my Take Off luggage on an international trip and I saved money by not having to pay checked baggage fees. Also the wheels made it so easy to maneuver and walk around with; they did not get stuck like the ones in my other suitcase. I really like the rose gold color which stood out in baggage claim (the airline checked by bag during boarding due to lack of room in overhead bins).
I normally use a regular backpack as my personal item. But this gave me A LOT more room to pack things. And it cut perfectly fine inside the bag measuring station
This idea was genius. I will definitely be making another purchase. If you have nails it can make taking the wheels off a bit of a task. Otherwise it’s well worth the purchase if you fly Spirit.
I absolutely love it. Don’t care for the wheels but you do have the option to purchase the spinner wheels. Great quality and price. Shipping supper fast. Customer service absolutely amazing and helpful. Wish I gotten the 3.0 model I like the upgrades on the newer version. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKEOFF LUGGAGE 🧳
Best luggage purchase ever! The gate agent said i have to measure my bag and his colleague said, " oh no, she can go, she has TAKEOFF"! Very happy with my purchase plus I got the color I wanted. Thank you!
The Personal Item Suitcase 2.0 – Expandable itself is clever and practical. It’s compact, sturdy, and fits perfectly under the seat when the wheels are off. I love that I can save on carry-on fees with airlines that have strict size requirements. The hard shell feels protective, and the interior is simple but easy to pack.
That said, there are a few small downsides. The wheels don’t roll as smoothly as higher-end luggage, and the exterior scratches easily after a few trips. Also, if you expand it too much or overpack, it might not meet the personal-item size limits anymore, so you have to be careful.
Overall, I’m very happy with my purchase and the shopping experience. The bag delivers exactly what it promises — a reliable, fee-saving suitcase that works perfectly for short trips and budget airline travel. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to travel light and avoid baggage fees.
I bought the Take Off Luggage Personal Item Suitcase 2.0 because I wanted a bag that would fit under the seat on budget airlines and help me avoid paying extra for a carry-on. Overall, it does exactly what it promises—with a few trade-offs.
The **best feature** is the removable wheels. Once you pop them off, the suitcase fits neatly into most personal-item sizers, even on strict airlines like Frontier or Spirit. It’s also surprisingly roomy for its size, and the **expandable zipper** gives you a little extra space when you need it. The **hard-shell design** feels sturdy and gives good protection to what’s inside.
On the downside, the **wheels don’t roll as smoothly** as more expensive luggage, and the **outer shell scratches easily**, especially if you check it or drag it over rough ground. The handle works fine but feels a bit lightweight. Also, if you expand the suitcase too much, it might not fit airline size requirements anymore, so you have to pack carefully.
Despite those small issues, this suitcase is a **great travel companion for short trips** or anyone who flies often on budget airlines. It’s compact, lightweight, and can save you real money in baggage fees.
**Final verdict:**
Perfect for travelers who pack light and fly budget.
Not ideal if you want a premium feel or plan to overpack.
I LOVE the take off luggage! This is my second suitcase with them. My first one lasted about 3 years before ripping. However, this one came scratched and dirty so I am a little disappointed.
I purchased this in hopes to save money on flights. While the bag is well made, several airlines such as my trips on United and American Airlines did not allow me to carry on the Take Off luggage. I do want to warn people even though it fits the size limits, if your airline worker does not accept - they will make you check the bag and pay a fee. Be warned.
Love the idea of this luggage, but falls a bit short on quality. Received luggage in July and have used it twice on overnight trips. First trip the wheel cracked and second trip the zipper is already pulling away from the material. Handle is also a little weak when rolling.
Without the expansion, I have a hard time placing the luggage in the compartment for measurement, therefore I was at risk for paying the extra fees. However, I love the luggage I will order an additional one without expansion.
